About the model
Bolia Scandinavia – chaise longue sofa with down cushions
Glismand & Rüdiger designed the Scandinavia for Bolia as a sofa with a classic, timeless look. Bolia calls the series a much-loved classic. It is built for long use: a solid wood frame supports the upholstery, and the armrests are generously padded. The seat cushions are covered on both sides, so you can turn them over. Bolia offers them with cold foam or with a down filling. A special lining and a slightly raised edge keep the cushions in place.
Scandinavia corner sofa in grey and beige fabric
This Scandinavia is a three-seater with a chaise longue, referred to as an ottoman in the product name. The chaise longue is on the left, seen from the front. The fabric cover is in grey and beige. According to the product name, the cushions are filled with down, which makes the seat softer than foam alone. On the chaise longue you can stretch out your legs, whether for reading or a film night. The sofa suits living rooms for two to three people.
Seating comfort and space
Down gives noticeably when you sit on it. On down-filled Bolia sofas, the layer of down and feathers sits on a supportive cold foam core. So you sit softly without sinking right through. Scandinavia sofas have a seat depth of 58 cm, and this piece has a seat height of 42 cm. The sofa needs around 2.6 m of wall space, and the chaise longue extends 157 cm into the room. Allow around 60 to 80 cm of walking space in front of it.
Elements and additions
The series includes two- to three-seaters, sofas with a chaise longue on the left or right, corner sofas with and without an open end, and sofa beds. These are joined by an armchair, a footstool and poufs in several sizes, some with storage space. Bolia sells legs separately.
Caring for the fabric cover
Down cushions need a little attention: plump them up vigorously on a regular basis so that the filling is distributed and they keep their shape. Vacuum the sofa and cushions on a low setting with the upholstery nozzle, including under the cushions. The fabric cover is fixed in place. Dab stains with a damp cloth; for a deep clean, a professional upholstery cleaner is the right choice.

Frequently asked questions
Which fillings are available for the Scandinavia?
Bolia offers the cushions with cold foam or with down. Cold foam keeps its shape and gives support, while down is softer and gives more. With a fabric cover, the cushions are covered on both sides in either case and can be turned over.
Why do the Scandinavia's down cushions change shape?
Down and feathers settle and shift as you sit. Bolia therefore recommends shaking and plumping up the cushions regularly. They never fully return to their original shape, and Bolia calls the softer look a natural characteristic of down.
Why don't the Scandinavia's seat cushions slide forward?
There is a slightly raised edge under the seat cushions, plus a special lining. Together, they stop the cushions from slipping. As a result, you need to straighten them less often, even on the long seat of the chaise longue.
Is the Scandinavia's cover removable?
Yes, on fabric versions. Bolia built the Scandinavia with a fully removable fabric cover so that you can clean or replace it. Leather versions, by contrast, have a fixed cover, and their cushions are not reversible.
Which legs are available for the Scandinavia?
The legs come in different materials, such as oiled oak, oiled walnut or stainless steel, and in two heights. Bolia also sells oak legs of 13 and 15 cm separately. Changing the legs alters the look without replacing the whole sofa.
What is the idea behind the Scandinavia?
In their own words, Glismand & Rüdiger wanted to create an original, authentic sofa that is timeless and has character. Bolia itself associates the word Scandinavian with durability, craftsmanship, simplicity and honesty.

Bolia was founded in 2000 in Aarhus, Denmark, where its headquarters remain today. The company works with more than 50 designers from 19 countries. The Scandinavia and the Cosy are by the Danish duo Glismand & Rüdiger, while the modular Noora, with modules in two depths, comes from the in-house design team. The sofas are built by hand in Europe, most of them made to order with a choice of cover, colour and size.
