About the model
Minotti Mills – chair with a Nordic touch
Rodolfo Dordoni designed the Mills for Minotti; it was launched in 2011. By then, Dordoni had already been the company’s art director for over ten years. Minotti describes the chair as Nordic-inspired, with light proportions, a dynamic profile and a clearly legible structure. According to the manufacturer, the focus is on comfort, a generous use of materials and well-thought-out construction. The seat and back have a metal core in flame-retardant polyurethane foam. The tapered metal legs are lacquered in pewter, and the foot caps are black nickel-plated.
Mills set of four chairs in white fabric
This set consists of four Mills chairs with a white fabric cover. Four matching chairs are enough for an everyday dining table or a meeting table in the office. The light fabric brings out the slim shape and the metal legs. The chairs go equally well with tables made of wood, stone or glass. A single Mills also looks good on its own, for example at a desk.
Seating comfort and space
In the seat of the Mills, elastic straps beneath the foam padding provide spring, and the back is padded too. So you do not sit on a hard surface; the seat gives slightly and keeps you upright, which is comfortable at the dining table. According to the specification table, the seat height is 50 cm. Measure the height of your table beforehand so that there is enough legroom. Each chair needs around 50 × 52 cm of floor space. At the dining table, allow around 60 cm of table width per person.
Variants and additions
Alongside the chair, there is the Mills Low. It keeps the lightness and character of the chair but is lower, making it suitable as a small armchair for living rooms and bedrooms. Minotti still has the Mills in its range, with a fabric or leather cover. More chairs from the series can be added through Minotti retailers, for example for a larger table.
Caring for the fabric cover
The fabric covers of the Mills are removable, whereas leather covers are fixed. This means you can have white fabric cleaned according to the cover’s care instructions. For everyday care, vacuum the covers with a soft upholstery nozzle. Dab stains straight away with a light-coloured, slightly damp cloth, without rubbing. At the dining table in particular, it pays to soak up spills immediately.
Why buy a pre-owned Minotti Mills?
Minotti was founded in 1948 by Alberto Minotti and is still a family business based in Meda today. Rodolfo Dordoni was its art director from 1998 to 2023; the Mills belongs to the 2011 collection. A metal core and metal legs are robust materials for chairs that are used every day. The removable fabric covers make care easier for years to come. This set has been inspected in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
What is it like to sit on the Mills?
Upright and with a little spring. Elastic straps in the seat give slightly as you sit down, and the foam padding makes the seat and back soft. With the Mills, Minotti explicitly puts comfort first.
How is the Minotti Mills constructed?
The seat and back have a metal core embedded in flame-retardant polyurethane foam. In the seat, elastic straps with a high rubber content provide the suspension. The tapered metal legs have a diameter of 25 mm.
How do you clean the white fabric of the Mills thoroughly?
Take off the fabric covers and have them cleaned according to the fabric’s care instructions. Clean all four covers together so that the shade stays the same. In between, vacuuming with a soft nozzle is enough.
What is the Mills Low?
The Mills Low is the lower version, a small armchair. According to Minotti, it keeps the lightness and character of the chair, and its height makes it suitable for living rooms and bedrooms. It is built like the chair, with a metal core and elastic straps.
How do you care for the metal legs of the Mills?
Wipe the pewter-lacquered legs with a soft, slightly damp cloth and then dry them. Avoid abrasive cleaners and rough sponges, as they can scratch the lacquer. When moving the chairs, it is better to lift them than to drag them.
Which company does the Mills come from?
The Mills comes from Minotti in Meda in the Brianza region, founded in 1948 by Alberto Minotti. The company is still family-owned today and has been listed in Italy’s special register of historic brands since 2022.
Can I see the piece before buying?
Yes – the piece is at Warehouse Cologne. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
Minotti was founded in 1948 by Alberto Minotti in Meda, in the Brianza area, initially as a small workshop; from the 1960s the business grew larger and more industrial. In 1991 his sons Renato and Roberto Minotti took over the family company. From 1998 until his death in 2023, the Milan architect Rodolfo Dordoni was art director and shaped the collections, for example with the Hamilton seating system of 2004 and its low base. The furniture is made with modern technology and finished by hand.
