Muuto Outline – the 1960s reimagined

With the Outline, Anderssen & Voll designed a sofa for Muuto that reinterprets classic Scandinavian models of the 1960s. On the outside it shows a clean line; on the inside, a deep seat with soft upholstery, framed by curved armrests. It is supported by a wood and steel construction with a cold foam filling. The feet are made of cast aluminium, powder-coated or polished. Felt glides are already fitted underneath. Muuto fully upholsters the Outline in fabric, faux leather or leather.

Outline two-seater in blue leather – floor model

This Outline is a two-seater with a blue leather cover. It was a floor model, so it was on display in a showroom and was never used in a home. The leather covers the entire surface and traces the rounded edges and the curved armrests. The compact two-seater suits flats with little floor space, a study or a reception area. The blue adds a clear accent of colour.

Seating comfort and space

Beneath the leather is a cold foam filling that gives softly and supports at the same time. With a seat height of 40 cm, you sit in a relaxed position, slightly lower than on many sofas. The curved armrests frame the seat at the sides and invite you to lean against them. The two-seater needs around 1.7 m of wall space and 84 cm of depth. Leave around 60 to 80 cm clear in front of the sofa.

Elements and additions

An Outline armchair turns the two-seater into a seating group, and a pouf serves as a footstool or an extra seat. Muuto still offers the Outline in fabric, faux leather and leather. Besides sofas in several sizes, there are a chaise longue, a corner sofa, a daybed and Studio versions with a reduced depth. Muuto offers spare parts for suitable products through its customer service.

Caring for the leather cover

Muuto recommends cleaning smooth leather regularly with a dry cloth and treating it with special leather care products at least four times a year. Suede-like leathers, on the other hand, are only vacuumed with a soft brush, without water or soap. Test any care product on an inconspicuous spot first. Soak up spills immediately with an absorbent cloth, without rubbing.

Why a Muuto Outline floor model?

Since 2006, Muuto has stood for new perspectives on Scandinavian design; this is how the Copenhagen brand explains its name. This leather Outline was a floor model and was never used in a home. Leather develops its own patina over time; according to Muuto, with the right care it becomes even more beautiful over the years. This piece has been inspected in eight stations.
