Muuto Outline – sofa with a striking outline

Anderssen & Voll designed the Outline for Muuto as a new perspective on the classic Scandinavian design sofas of the 1960s. It takes its name from its strong outline. On the outside it looks clean and elegant; on the inside it offers a deep seat with soft upholstery. Curved armrests and lines reminiscent of architecture define its shape. Inside, a wood and steel construction with a cold foam filling does the work. The feet are made of cast aluminium. It is fully upholstered in fabric, faux leather or leather.

Outline two-seater in grey fabric – floor model

This Outline is a two-seater with a grey fabric cover. It was on display in a showroom as a floor model and was never used in a home. The two-seater fits into smaller living rooms, an entrance area or a study where two people should be able to sit comfortably. The neutral grey brings out the clean outline and the aluminium feet. It also looks good as a second sofa opposite a larger model.

Seating comfort and space

The Outline combines a deep seat with soft cold foam upholstery that still gives support. With a seat height of 40 cm, you sit slightly lower than on many sofas, in a relaxed position. The curved armrests frame the seat at the sides. The two-seater needs around 1.7 m of wall space and is only 84 cm deep. This means it also fits into narrow rooms. Leave around 60 to 80 cm of walking space in front of the sofa.

Elements and additions

The Outline family is large: Muuto offers sofas as two-, three- and three-and-a-half-seaters, a chaise longue, a corner sofa, an armchair and a daybed. Studio versions of the sofa and armchair are more compact, with a depth of 76 cm. There is also a matching pouf that serves as a footstool or an extra seat. The Outline is still in Muuto’s range.

Caring for the fabric cover

Muuto recommends gently dabbing stains on fabric with a lint-free cloth wrung out in clean, warm water. If needed, use a little washing-up liquid and then dab with clean water. The fabric manufacturer’s instructions for the specific fabric also apply. Wipe the aluminium feet with a damp, lint-free cloth and then dry them.

Why a Muuto Outline floor model?

Muuto was founded in Copenhagen in 2006; the name comes from the Finnish word muutos, meaning new perspective. This Outline was only on display in a showroom and was never used in a home. As Muuto still offers the Outline, the design is current and can be complemented with the pouf or armchair from the series. This piece has been inspected in eight stations.
