About the model
COR Trio – a seating landscape made of three elements
Franz Hero and Karl Odermatt of the Swiss firm team form ag created Trio in 1973. Their credo was maximum flexibility, and their laid-back lounging landscapes were a counterpoint to the hard arms and rigid backs of the time. The system gets by with three elements: seat pouffe, backrest and corner backrest. The basic module is one metre long and one metre deep, and all the other parts are based on it. Inside, there is a proper slatted base, and the crisp edge features a distinctive double seam.
Trio corner sofa in brown fabric
This Trio suite is upholstered in brown fabric and arranged as a corner sofa with four seats. Because all the parts are based on the same one-metre grid, you can also arrange the elements differently – as a lying area, as a sofa with footstool or as a casual seating island. Brown looks warm and goes well with wood, leather and natural tones. The suite is suitable for a living room, a guest room or an open-plan loft. It is one of a kind.
Seating comfort and space
COR calls Trio an incredibly soft and comfortable modular system. With a seat height of 35 cm, you sit much lower than on most sofas – close to the floor, relaxed and lounge-like. The dimensions table gives 96 by 96 cm; this corresponds to the Trio grid of around one metre on which all the elements are based. How much floor space the suite needs depends on how you arrange it. As a rule of thumb, leave 60 to 80 cm clear in front of the seat.
Elements and additions
Trio is still in COR's range. Seat elements are available in widths from 50 to 200 cm, along with backrests and corner backrests, a backrest bracket and an add-on wall element. COR also makes the system as a sofa bed, 150 or 200 cm wide. If you want to extend the suite, ask a COR specialist retailer about matching elements; thanks to the shared grid, they fit into any arrangement.
Caring for the fabric cover
Tuck-in piping holds the cover in place, so the covers of all seat elements can be removed and cleaned. The fabric's care instructions show how it may be washed or cleaned. For everyday care, vacuum the fabric with a soft upholstery nozzle and dab stains with a damp cloth, without rubbing. Direct sunlight can fade brown fabrics; a spot away from the full midday sun protects the colour.
Why buy a pre-owned COR Trio?
COR has been making upholstered furniture in Rheda-Wiedenbrück since 1954. Trio has been in the range since 1973. According to COR, much has stayed the same over the decades: the elaborate craftsmanship, the inner workings with a slatted base and the double seam. Because all the parts fit one grid, the suite grows with your rooms. This piece has been inspected in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
Which elements make up the COR Trio?
Three basic elements: seat pouffe, backrest and corner backrest. The basic module is one metre long and one metre deep, and the other parts are designed to match it. They can be combined into sofas, corner groups and entire seating landscapes.
What is it like to sit on the COR Trio?
Low and soft. COR speaks of an incredibly soft and comfortable modular system, and the designers wanted laid-back lounging landscapes instead of hard arms and backs. The low seat invites you to lean back and lie down rather than sit upright.
Is the Trio available as a sofa bed?
Yes. On the Trio sofa bed, you open the all-round zip hidden in the outer seam, lift the cover and fold over the upper mattress. In a few simple moves, this creates a spacious double bed.
What combinations does COR show for the Trio?
Under the motto 1+1+1 equals infinity, COR shows various arrangements. These include a sofa with corner back and footstool, a seating and lounging combination, a corner combination with footstool and a three-seater with footstool. All of them are made from the same three elements.
How did the COR Trio come about?
The Swiss designers Franz Hero and Karl Odermatt of team form ag created the original model in 1973. Their goal was maximum mobility. Their laid-back seating landscapes were a deliberate counterpoint to the hard armrests and stiff backs of the sofas of the time.
What is inside the COR Trio?
A proper slatted base, like the one you know from a bed. There is also tuck-in piping that holds the cover in place, so the covers of all seat elements can be removed and cleaned. On the outside, a double seam marks the crisp edge.
Can I see the sofa before buying?
Yes – the sofa is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
COR was founded in 1954 in Rheda-Wiedenbrück and is still run by the founding Lübke family; the name is the Latin word for heart. Every piece is assembled and tested there. Friedrich Wilhelm Möller's Conseta dates from 1964 and is an add-on system of elements in various widths with a choice of armrests. The Trio by Team Form AG, from the early 1970s, is built from three basic elements, and the Mell was designed by the studio Jehs+Laub.
