About the model
COR Conseta – a sofa system since 1964
When COR showed Conseta at the furniture fair in 1964, the sofa made of elements was ahead of its time. Only four orders came in, and two of them were later cancelled. A year later, the upholstery had a softer filling and the armrests were wider, and from then on its success grew. The range was designed by Friedrich Wilhelm Möller, a trained cabinetmaker. By 1996, Conseta had been sold more than 500,000 times, and in 2024, according to COR, more than 875,000 elements were in circulation. COR calls it a design classic.
Conseta corner sofa in grey leather – floor model
This Conseta is a corner sofa with a grey leather cover; the corner is on the right, seen from the front. It seats three. The sofa was on display and has never been used in a home. Grey leather looks understated and calm and goes well with wood, glass and metal. The corner sofa suits a living room just as well as an office with a meeting corner. It consists of two parts joined according to the Conseta principle.
Seating comfort and space
Under the cushions, hardened steel sinuous springs provide the suspension on a solid beech frame, and the reinforced seat edge gives support at the front. Whether the seat feels firm or softer is down to the filling – COR offers five versions. At 47 cm, you sit slightly higher than on many sofas, which makes it easier to get up. The corner sofa is 2.78 m wide and extends 2.29 m into the room on the corner side. Leave 60 to 80 cm clear in front of it.
Elements and additions
The elements interlock by means of fittings. To join them, lift two elements slightly and lower them evenly; lifting them again releases the connection. This helps when rearranging the room or moving house. COR still makes Conseta, with seat, corner, end and lounger elements as well as footstools. You can enquire about a footrest or a tilting headrest at a COR specialist retailer.
Caring for the leather cover
According to COR, leather is undemanding: care for it gently and clean it rarely. Each week, it is enough to vacuum off the dust or wipe it with a damp cloth. Twice a year, follow up with a gentle cleaner and a care cream that protects the leather and keeps it supple. Do not place the sofa in full sun or right next to a radiator. The cover can be removed thanks to the tuck-in piping.
Why a COR Conseta floor model?
COR was founded in 1954 and still makes upholstered furniture by hand in Rheda-Wiedenbrück. Conseta has been in the range since 1964, and COR keeps developing it, for example with a cylindrical foot covered in fabric or leather. A floor model was only on display: the frame, springs and cover have never been exposed to use in a home. This piece has been inspected in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
Where does the name Conseta come from?
It combines two Latin terms: con sedere, meaning to sit together, and consetus, meaning put together. Both describe the idea behind the range – a sofa made of elements that people sit on together.
What is special about the Conseta corner element?
Its cushion runs in one piece all the way to the head end, so no seam gets in the way when you lie down. COR makes it in left- or right-hand versions, with or without an armrest, 214 or 244 cm long, 87 or 97 cm deep, and either raised or close to the floor.
How firm is the seat on a Conseta?
That depends on the filling, as COR offers five versions. The firmest is polyether with a Bonnell spring core; a polyether combination and cold foam wrapped in visco foam are softer. There are also air-cell sticks around a cold foam core and the PolyPLUS back cushion.
How does the Conseta become a guest bed?
For this, COR makes Conseta as a sofa bed with a low base close to the floor. In a few simple moves, it becomes a 155 by 200 cm sleeping area at a comfortable height. The back cushions stay in position and serve as a backrest for reading in bed.
What accessories are available for the Conseta?
COR offers a footrest and a headrest that can be folded in at the side and tilted. There are also footstools in several sizes and a lounger element with a 120 cm wide cushion, on which, according to COR, you can lounge comfortably with your favourite people.
What should you avoid with a leather Conseta?
COR warns against harsh products: stain removers, solvents, turpentine, shoe polish and other cleaning agents damage the leather. It does not cope well with heat either, so never dry it next to a radiator. You should protect it from direct sunlight and strong light.
Can I see the sofa before buying?
Yes – the sofa is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
COR was founded in 1954 in Rheda-Wiedenbrück and is still run by the founding Lübke family; the name is the Latin word for heart. Every piece is assembled and tested there. Friedrich Wilhelm Möller's Conseta dates from 1964 and is an add-on system of elements in various widths with a choice of armrests. The Trio by Team Form AG, from the early 1970s, is built from three basic elements, and the Mell was designed by the studio Jehs+Laub.
