COR Mell – a sofa on slim steel runners

Mell belongs to a furniture family designed for COR by Jehs+Laub. It comprises a sofa, armchair, connecting element, footstool and table, plus the deeper Mell Lounge and the Mell C side table. These can be combined into small suites or entire seating landscapes. What they all have in common is the contrast between a cubic outer shape and rounded inner edges. The steel runners are so narrow that the sofa seems to float rather than stand. With the Mell, comfort and an upright posture are not mutually exclusive.

This Mell is a two-seater with a black leather cover. It takes up little space and is well suited to city flats, studies or a meeting corner. Because you sit upright, it also works in places where people work or eat. Black leather looks clean and understated, and the runners leave the floor beneath clear. This keeps the room visually open. It is one of a kind.

Seating comfort and space

The two-seater is 1.6 m wide and 72 cm deep. This means it also fits where a deep sofa would block the way through. At 43 cm, the seat height is within the usual range. The seat feels somewhat firmer: COR describes Mell as the firmer version of the Mell Lounge, with a shallower seat and no back cushions. As a rule of thumb, allow 60 to 80 cm of walkway in front of the sofa.

Elements and additions

The Mell family also includes a small high-backed suite with loose seat cushions in three lengths, plus a footstool for tired feet in the evening. The Mell armchair is available with a high or low back, with a loose seat cushion or with fixed upholstery. COR still makes Mell; side tables, footstools and connecting elements in the same design language complement the sofa.

Caring for the leather cover

Care for black leather as COR recommends. Vacuum off the dust every week or wipe it up with a damp cloth. At least twice a year, clean the leather with a gentle cleaner and then protect it with leather care cream. This protects it from dirt and keeps the leather supple. Harsh products such as stain removers or turpentine are off limits. Never dry the leather next to a radiator.
