Rolf Benz calls the 394 a declaration of love to sitting. Sebastian Labs designed the armchair in 2015. Its appeal lies in the contrast between voluminous cushioning and a delicate wire frame. The frame is available in gloss chrome, traffic black or umbra grey. Inside is a metal frame around which the body is moulded in foam. The seat rests on steel sinuous springs. Fine, hand-finished seams add accents. The armchair is upholstered in fabric or leather.

This Rolf Benz 394 is an armchair with a grey fabric cover. It works as a reading armchair by the window, as a companion to a sofa or as a single armchair in a bedroom or study. The grey combines calmly with the wire frame. Strong colours in the room, such as a rug or cushions, stand out well beside it. Rolf Benz emphasises that the 394 looks just as good in a group as on its own.

Seating comfort and space

‘Visibly light. Noticeably soft.’ This is how Rolf Benz describes the armchair, whose voluminous cushioning yields pleasantly. At 40 cm, you sit slightly lower than on most sofas, whose seats are 42 to 45 cm high. The armchair needs a footprint of 75 × 92 cm. With some room for your legs, a corner of a good square metre is enough.

Rolf Benz still offers the 394 in its range. There is a matching footstool for every version, on which you can put your feet up. It can be added through Rolf Benz specialist retailers. Rolf Benz also offers side tables that go with the armchair. A second 394 turns the single armchair into a pair for a conversation corner.

Caring for the fabric cover

Vacuum the fabric regularly with the upholstery nozzle on low suction; Rolf Benz advises doing so at least once a month. A soft brush also loosens dust from the weave. Dab stains immediately from the edge towards the centre. After sitting, smooth the cover from the inside outwards. Steam cleaners damage the fabric.

Rolf Benz has been making upholstered furniture since 1964, having been founded in Nagold in the Black Forest. The 394 is a more recent design that is still in the range.
