About the model
Rolf Benz Plura 380 – a sofa with many faces
There is more technology in the Plura than meets the eye. The seat rests on a metal inner frame with a swivel function and steel sinuous spring suspension, and the back on an adjustable metal inner frame. On top is polyurethane foam, built up in layers of different heights and degrees of firmness and covered with polyester fleece. Norbert Beck designed the range for Rolf Benz, and it was launched in 2011. Depending on the element, the sofa becomes a high-back sofa, a place to relax or a longchair.
Plura 380 two-seater in white leather
This Plura 380 is a two-seater with a leather cover in white. The pale leather makes the sofa look light and emphasises the straight lines of the metal frame. As a two-seater, it fits into smaller living rooms or a study, or complements a larger sofa. Protect white leather from textiles whose dye can rub off, such as dark jeans. It is one of a kind.
Seating comfort and space
With a seat height of 41 cm, you sit a little lower than on many sofas, which gives a laid-back feel. Rolf Benz describes the upholstery as relaxed: you sit in the upholstery, and slight ripples in the cover are part of the look. According to the manufacturer, the loose, low back cushions provide comfort for your back. The two-seater takes up around 1.86 m along the wall and 93 cm in depth. Leave 60 to 80 cm of walkway clear in front of the sofa.
Elements and additions
The Plura range included a stand-alone sofa, add-on and corner elements, end armchairs with a tray in black leather, a longchair, an upholstered corner piece and a square upholstered seat. Depending on the element, the back, side section and seat could be adjusted. The Plura is no longer listed on the current Rolf Benz website. Rolf Benz offers a reupholstery service through its retail partners.
Caring for the leather cover
Wipe away dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Rolf Benz recommends treating leather with a suitable care product at least every six months. With white leather, take care with textiles whose dye can rub off, such as dark jeans. Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from radiators so that the leather does not dry out.
Why buy a pre-owned Rolf Benz Plura 380?
Rolf Benz has been making upholstered furniture in Nagold since 1964, and since 2020 with the ‘Furniture Made in Germany’ label. On the Plura, the swivel and adjustment functions are housed in metal inner frames, with the upholstery on top. The idea of a sofa that changes its posture is as relevant today as it was at its launch in 2011. This piece has been inspected in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
Which elements are part of the Plura 380 series?
Rolf Benz made the Plura as a stand-alone sofa, an add-on sofa, a corner add-on sofa and a corner add-on unit. There were also end armchairs, some with a tray in black leather, a longchair, an upholstered corner piece, an add-on armchair and a square upholstered seat. These could be combined into small sofas as well as large corner arrangements.
How does the Plura 380 become a high-back sofa?
Pull the back upwards. A friction fitting holds it in any position up to the high position, in which the backrest also supports your head. Plura elements with an adjustable back have this feature.
What are the Plura 380's cushions filled with?
The cushions have a down-like feel: foam sticks and polyester fibres sit in individual chambers that stop the filling from shifting. Shake and plump up the cushions regularly, as you would when making a bed, so the filling stays fluffy.
Are the Plura 380's back cushions available in other materials?
On request, Rolf Benz made the loose, low back cushions in a different cover material from the upholstery. This allowed, for example, a mix of leather and fabric. According to the manufacturer, the cushions provide comfort for your back and can be arranged freely.
What base does the Plura 380 stand on?
The Plura stands on a straight-lined metal base that deliberately contrasts with the rounded upholstery. Rolf Benz offered it with a fine-textured powder coating in silver, traffic black and umbra grey, as well as in gloss chrome.
Can the Plura 380 be reupholstered?
Yes. Rolf Benz offers a reupholstery service for its upholstered furniture, handled through a retail partner. The manufacturer assesses the piece based on the documents submitted, prepares an individual quote for each job, and renews parts subject to wear and, if necessary, the foams.
Can I see the piece before buying?
Yes – the piece is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
Rolf Benz was founded in 1964 by the upholsterer Rolf Benz in Nagold. His first range, Addiform, consisted of elements that could be combined freely into a seating landscape. Well-known models include the Plura by Norbert Beck, with a steplessly adjustable back, and the Nova by Joachim Nees, whose back opens out into a reclining position. The furniture is made largely by hand in two company-owned factories in the northern Black Forest; every sofa undergoes a final inspection.
