About the model
Rolf Benz Aura – a homage to elegance
Rolf Benz calls the Aura a homage to elegance. Beck Design created the functional sofa in 2018, and it was presented at the furniture fair in Milan. Behind the slim shape lies technology: the seat and back have inner metal frames, with a swivel function integrated into the seat and an adjustment mechanism into the back. Underneath, steel sinuous springs provide the suspension. Delicate cast aluminium feet in black, umbra grey or a polished finish hold the body lightly above the floor. In its range, Rolf Benz listed the sofa as model 388.
Aura two-seater in grey and blue fabric
This Aura is a two-seater with a fabric cover in grey and blue. The mix of colours looks muted and brings a touch of colour to the room without being loud. As a two-seater, the sofa suits a living room, a reading room or a study that is also used for relaxing. Woods, white and shades of grey go well with it, as do blue cushions. A sofa for two people who like to read or watch films side by side in the evening.
Seating comfort and space
Rolf Benz describes the Aura’s upholstery as relaxed: the cover sits loosely, and you sit in the cushioning rather than on it. The seat height of 42 cm is within the usual range. The two-seater needs just under 2.5 m along the wall and 1.07 m in depth. Add 60 to 80 cm of walking space in front, and it will also fit into medium-sized living rooms.
Elements and additions
The Aura was conceived as a range: standalone sofas, add-on sofas and corner add-on sofas formed straight sofas and corner sofas, while shelves provided space for a tray or books. Back cushions were also available in a low version. Rolf Benz no longer offers the Aura. Worth knowing for the future: you can request reupholstery through a Rolf Benz dealer, and the foam is also replaced if necessary.
Caring for the fabric cover
Vacuum the fabric about once a month with the upholstery nozzle on low suction, as Rolf Benz recommends. A soft brush loosens dust from the weave. Dab stains immediately with an absorbent, light-coloured cloth, from the edge towards the centre. Test cleaning products on a hidden area first. Steam cleaners damage the cover.
Why buy a pre-owned Rolf Benz Aura?
Rolf Benz, founded in Nagold in 1964 by the upholsterer Rolf Benz, says it relies on high-density foams. This ensures that upholstery keeps its shape for a long time. The Aura adds a shape that will also fit into a future interior. If you want a new cover later on, Rolf Benz offers its own service for this. We have inspected this piece in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
How does the Aura become a longchair?
First fold down the side section, then swivel the seat to the side. This creates a longchair for stretching out, provided the element has this function. When upright, the side section provides lateral support while you sit.
How is the high backrest created on the Aura?
The Aura’s back cushions fold upwards, creating a particularly high backrest. According to Rolf Benz, it can be adjusted continuously. This way, it supports your back whether you are reading or watching TV.
What is it like to sit on the Aura?
The Aura has relaxed upholstery, with the cover sitting loosely around the foam. The seat depth is 62 cm, so you can lean back comfortably. If you want more back support, fold the back cushions up to form a high backrest, provided the element has this function.
Which versions of the Aura shelves were available?
The tops were available in oak, black-stained oak or American walnut veneer, with a real stone veneer made of slate, or covered in leather. There were two sizes to choose from: square or half as wide.
Can Rolf Benz reupholster the Aura?
Rolf Benz offers its own reupholstery service for this, in the EU and Switzerland. The factory assesses the piece on the basis of documents, replaces wearing parts and swaps the foam if necessary. The quote and the process are handled by a Rolf Benz dealer.
How do you care for an Aura with a fabric cover?
Freshen up the fabric from time to time with a damp, soft chamois leather; the moisture keeps the fibres elastic. Household cleaners containing solvents should not be used on the cover. Leave a complete clean to a professional upholstery cleaner.

Rolf Benz was founded in 1964 by the upholsterer Rolf Benz in Nagold. His first range, Addiform, consisted of elements that could be combined freely into a seating landscape. Well-known models include the Plura by Norbert Beck, with a steplessly adjustable back, and the Nova by Joachim Nees, whose back opens out into a reclining position. The furniture is made largely by hand in two company-owned factories in the northern Black Forest; every sofa undergoes a final inspection.
