Rolf Benz Mera – functional sofa for small rooms

Rolf Benz conceived the Mera as a space-saving marvel designed to make a lot out of a small living area. Flexible backrests, seats and side sections combine to form standalone or add-on sofas. Behind the delicate shape lies technology: the seat and back have inner metal frames, with a swivel function in the seat and an adjustment mechanism in the back, depending on the element. Slender feet and a fine frame make the sofa appear to float. The frame is available in several lacquer colours and in gloss chrome. There are two seat heights to choose from, 41 or 44 cm.

This Mera is a corner sofa with a grey fabric cover, made up of two pieces. Seen from the front, the corner is on the right. With room for four people on a compact footprint, it fits into living rooms where every metre counts. The grey is understated and can be combined with wood, white and colourful cushions. It is also well suited to city flats and apartments. Add a small side table next to it and the reading corner is complete.

Seating comfort and space

With the Mera, Rolf Benz highlights how softly you sink in. The seat is made of cold foam, and the upholstery is relaxed. At 44 cm, the seat height is within the usual range. The corner sofa needs only two metres of wall space, and the right-hand section extends 1.5 m into the room. With 60 to 80 cm of walking space in front, it also fits into smaller living rooms.

Elements and additions

Depending on its features, the Mera offers many functions. These include a continuously adjustable back, fold-up cushions for an extra-high backrest, an adjustable headrest and side sections for stretching out lengthwise. In the position for putting your feet up, the footrest is exactly level with the seat. Rolf Benz still offers the Mera. Elements such as a longchair, add-on armchair or upholstered bench, as well as extra cushions, are available from specialist retailers.

Caring for the fabric cover

Vacuum the cover about once a month with the upholstery nozzle on low suction and brush it with a soft brush. Blot stains immediately with an absorbent cloth, from the edge towards the centre, without rubbing. Plump up the cushions from time to time. Steam cleaners and cleaners containing solvents damage the cover.
