About the model
Rolf Benz Aura – functional sofa with clean lines
The Aura, formerly listed by Rolf Benz as model 388, is a functional sofa by Beck Design. The idea: an elegant sofa that adapts to the situation. Adjustable side sections provide lateral support or fold down so you can lie down. With the seat swivelled, an element becomes a longchair. The back cushions fold up to form a high backrest. There were also shelves in wood, slate or leather that serve as a table for glasses and books. The cast aluminium feet were available in black, umbra grey or polished.
Aura corner sofa in grey and blue fabric
This Aura is a corner sofa with a fabric cover in grey and blue, made up of two pieces. Seen from the front, the corner is on the left. With room for four people, it suits larger living rooms and open-plan layouts in which the sofa divides up the space. The grey-blue looks calm and can be combined with wood, white and bold accents. As a corner sofa, it invites you to spend evenings together with family or guests.
Seating comfort and space
The Aura has relaxed upholstery, so you sink in pleasantly. At 44 cm, the seat height is in the upper part of the usual range. The corner sofa takes up 3.35 m along its long side, and the left-hand section extends 2.17 m into the room. Allow 60 to 80 cm of walking space in front of both sides. This leaves enough room to move around when you have a large group.
Elements and additions
The Aura was conceived as a range: standalone sofas, add-on sofas and corner add-on sofas formed straight sofas and corner sofas, while shelves provided space for a tray or books. Back cushions were also available in a low version. Rolf Benz no longer offers the Aura. Worth knowing for the future: you can request reupholstery through a Rolf Benz dealer, and the foam is also replaced if necessary.
Caring for the fabric cover
Plump up the seat and back cushions regularly and smooth the cover from the inside outwards, as Rolf Benz advises. Remove dust with the upholstery nozzle on low suction. Treat stains immediately, dabbing rather than rubbing. Keep it around 20 to 30 cm away from radiators and avoid strong sunlight.

Rolf Benz, founded in Nagold in 1964 by the upholsterer Rolf Benz, says it relies on high-density foams. This ensures that upholstery keeps its shape for a long time. The Aura adds a shape that will also fit into a future interior. If you want a new cover later on, Rolf Benz offers its own service for this. We have inspected this piece in eight stations.

How is the Aura constructed?
The seat and back have an inner metal frame, with the swivel function integrated into the seat and the adjustment mechanism into the back. The seat rests on steel sinuous springs. The seat and back are made of layered polyurethane foam, and the cover has a quilted backing of polyester fleece.
When was the Aura launched?
Rolf Benz presented the Aura at the furniture fair in Milan in 2018. It was designed by Beck Design, and Rolf Benz calls the sofa a homage to elegance.
What is it like to sit on the Aura?
The Aura has relaxed upholstery, with the cover sitting loosely around the foam. The seat depth is 62 cm, so you can lean back comfortably. If you want more back support, fold the back cushions up to form a high backrest, provided the element has this function.
Which versions of the Aura shelves were available?
The tops were available in oak, black-stained oak or American walnut veneer, with a real stone veneer made of slate, or covered in leather. There were two sizes to choose from: square or half as wide.
Can Rolf Benz reupholster the Aura?
Yes, in most cases. The manufacturer calculates the cost of each reupholstery job individually and carries it out itself, following its own standards for cutting, sewing and upholstering. Your point of contact is a Rolf Benz dealer, and the service is available in the EU and Switzerland.
How do you care for an Aura with a fabric cover?
Freshen up the fabric from time to time with a damp, soft chamois leather; the moisture keeps the fibres elastic. Household cleaners containing solvents should not be used on the cover. Leave a complete clean to a professional upholstery cleaner.
Can I see the sofa before buying?
Yes – the sofa is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
Rolf Benz was founded in 1964 by the upholsterer Rolf Benz in Nagold. His first range, Addiform, consisted of elements that could be combined freely into a seating landscape. Well-known models include the Plura by Norbert Beck, with a steplessly adjustable back, and the Nova by Joachim Nees, whose back opens out into a reclining position. The furniture is made largely by hand in two company-owned factories in the northern Black Forest; every sofa undergoes a final inspection.
