About the model
Cassina Moov – a raised sofa with clean lines
Piero Lissoni designed the Moov for Cassina in 2011: a sofa raised off the floor with clean, straight lines. A metal line runs along the entire length of the elements, and at the ends there are cast aluminium feet with a triangular cross-section. The armrests and back have an internal tubular steel frame with elastic straps. The sofa looks light and, according to Cassina, suits almost any setting. The Moov is designed as a system: sofas in three lengths, two depths and islands that can be attached.
Moov two-seater in grey fabric
This Moov is a two-seater with a grey fabric cover. Because the sofa stands on narrow feet at the ends, the floor beneath it remains visible and the piece looks light. The compact two-seater suits a city flat or a study, or can serve as a second sofa in a larger living space. The neutral grey can be combined with wood, leather and strong colours. It is one of a kind.
Seating comfort and space
According to Cassina's data sheet, the seat rests on tubular steel and a wooden panel, padded with foam of various densities and polyester wadding. Cassina speaks of a soft, cosy seat. With a seat height of 42 cm, you sit within the usual range. The sofa is 1.8 m wide and 85 cm deep – the shallower of the two Moov depths, intended for rooms with limited space. As a rule of thumb, leave 60 to 80 cm clear in front of it.
Elements and additions
The Moov is still in Cassina's catalogue. The system includes sofas in three lengths, a second, greater depth and islands that can be attached to the sofas, as well as combinations with a chaise longue. The feet are available polished or lacquered. Since 2012, the Moov bed has also picked up the lines of the sofa. A Cassina specialist retailer can tell you whether a new element will fit this two-seater.
Caring for the fabric cover
For fabric covers, Cassina recommends a very soft brush to deal with dust. According to the manufacturer, vacuum cleaners and carpet beaters can damage the upholstery. For stains, it is best to turn to a specialist cleaner; test any product on a hidden area first. Heat sources and long periods of direct sunlight can change colours and leave marks.
Why buy a pre-owned Cassina Moov?
Cassina was founded in Meda in 1927 by Cesare and Umberto Cassina. By its own account, Cassina helped to launch industrial design in Italy in the 1950s. Piero Lissoni also designed the 8 and Mex Cube sofas for Cassina. With its steel frame and aluminium feet, the Moov is solidly built, and its shape is so understated that it suits many interiors. This piece has been inspected in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
What makes the Moov stand out?
The Moov is a raised sofa with clean, straight lines. A metal line runs along the entire length of the elements, and the feet are at the ends. Cassina describes it as a light-looking sofa that suits almost any setting.
How is the Moov built?
The seat rests on a matt black lacquered tubular steel frame and a poplar plywood panel. The armrests and back have an internal tubular steel frame with elastic straps. The padding consists of polyurethane foam in various densities, cold-moulded foam and polyester wadding.
What depths and additions are available for the Moov?
Cassina makes the Moov in two depths; the 85 cm deep version is intended for rooms with limited space. There are also islands that can be attached to the sofas, and combinations with a chaise longue.
What are the Moov islands?
Islands are upholstered elements that Cassina offers for attaching to the Moov sofas. According to the data sheet, they complement the fixed sofas in three lengths. This allows a Moov to grow into a larger seating landscape.
What feet does the Moov have?
The feet are made of die-cast aluminium with a triangular cross-section and sit at the ends, connected by an aluminium strut. Cassina offers them polished or lacquered, and non-slip rubber pads underneath protect the floor.
Is the Moov also available as a bed?
Yes. Since 2012, Cassina has offered a Moov bed that picks up the lines of the sofa. This lets you furnish your living and sleeping areas in the same design language.
Can I see the piece before buying?
Yes – the piece is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.
Cassina was founded in 1927 by Cesare and Umberto Cassina in Meda, Italy. In 1964 the company acquired the worldwide rights to four designs by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand. On the Maralunga, designed by Vico Magistretti in 1973, the backrest can be raised and lowered by a mechanism based on a simple bicycle chain; the sofa received the Compasso d'Oro in 1979. Piero Lissoni's Moov from 2011 is a sectional system with a fold-up headrest.
