About the model
B&B Italia Diesis – classic sofa with a metal frame
Antonio Citterio designed the Diesis together with Paolo Nava for B&B Italia in 1979. The aim was a formal sofa with a classic look that, following the example of Modernism, visibly separates the supporting structure from the upholstery. A frame of die-cast aluminium and tubular steel supports soft cushions for the seat, back and armrests. A steel rod inside the legs adds flexibility, and a comb-shaped structure of spring steel supports the back. Because the rear is upholstered as well, the Diesis can stand freely in the room.
Diesis two-seater in white leather
This Diesis is a two-seater with a white leather cover. The light leather makes the lines of the metal frame stand out clearly, with the cushions resting softly on top. As the Diesis also looks good from behind, you can use it as a room divider between the living and dining areas or place it in the middle of a large room. Two people sit comfortably on it, for example in a reading corner, a study or a reception area.
Seating comfort and space
For the Diesis, B&B Italia promises comfort through soft upholstery. In current production, the seat combines polyurethane of different firmnesses with viscoelastic foam and down. The back contains polyurethane and down, and the armrests are filled with down. With a seat height of 42 cm, you sit at the usual height. The sofa is around 2.2 m wide and 95 cm deep. If it stands freely in the room, it also needs a walkway behind it.
Elements and additions
The Diesis has no adjustable parts. The family includes a Diesis armchair as well as a matching side table. This lets you put together a seating group in the same design language. B&B Italia still has the Diesis in its range. A B&B Italia store or authorised dealer can look into reupholstery and spare parts based on the model name and article number.
Caring for the leather cover
Remove dust with a soft, dry cotton cloth and dab stains straight away from the outside in, without rubbing. Once or twice a year, the leather benefits from a suitable care product. Protect white leather from freshly dyed textiles such as jeans, from direct sunlight and from the heat of radiators. Clean the aluminium parts with lukewarm water and mild soap.
Why buy a pre-owned B&B Italia Diesis?
B&B Italia was founded in 1966 by Piero Ambrogio Busnelli and is based in Novedrate near Como. The manufacturer has been making the Diesis for over 45 years and made a point of celebrating this anniversary. A pre-owned piece is therefore not a discontinued model but a design from the current range. Metal and leather are durable materials, and leather develops its own patina over time. This piece has been inspected in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
Why can the Diesis stand freely in the room?
B&B Italia designed the Diesis to look good from behind as well: the rear is upholstered. The manufacturer describes it as a sofa that can stand in the middle of a room like a work of art, for example between the living and dining areas.
What is the frame of the Diesis made of?
The supporting frame is made of die-cast aluminium and tubular steel. A steel rod inside the legs increases their flexibility. The backrest is supported by a comb-shaped structure of spring steel covered in leather.
How is the Diesis upholstered?
The seat, back and armrests are soft cushions. In current production, B&B Italia combines polyurethane of different firmnesses with viscoelastic foam and down in the seat. The back contains polyurethane and down, and the armrests contain down.
Which pieces belong to the Diesis family?
Besides the sofa, B&B Italia offers a Diesis armchair and a Diesis side table. Together, they make a coherent seating group. A B&B Italia store or authorised dealer can clarify whether a piece can be added.
What is the idea behind the Diesis?
In 1979, Antonio Citterio and Paolo Nava set out to create a formal sofa with a classic look. Following the example of Modernism, they visibly separated the supporting structure from the upholstery. B&B Italia sums up the result as technology, elegance, ergonomics and comfort.
How do you care for a Diesis in white leather?
Remove dust with a soft, dry cloth and dab stains straight away with a slightly damp cloth. A suitable leather care product, applied once or twice a year, keeps the leather supple. Avoid direct sunlight, radiators and freshly dyed textiles such as jeans.
Can I see the piece before buying?
