About the model

B&B Italia Solo – sofa range by Antonio Citterio

Antonio Citterio designed the Solo for B&B Italia. The architect from Meda has been working with the manufacturer for decades; his designs for the company include the Diesis, Charles and Michel. He received the Compasso d'Oro in 1987 and 1994. Known versions of the Solo are straight sofas, corner sofas and a matching footstool, upholstered in fabric or leather. The corner sofas are made up of several elements. The Solo is no longer listed on the current B&B Italia website.

Solo corner sofa in white leather with footstool

This Solo is a corner sofa with a white leather cover; seen from the front, the corner is on the right. It comes with a footstool that serves as a footrest or an extra seat. With room for four people, the combination suits a living room where the corner closes off the seating area from the rest of the room. The white leather makes the large surface look bright and calm.

Seating comfort and space

The seat height of 42 cm is in the usual range. With the footstool in front of the corner, you get a surface on which you can put your feet up. The sofa takes up around 2.5 m against the wall, and the corner extends 1.4 m into the room. The footstool needs just under a metre square in addition; when needed, you can move it aside.

Elements and additions

The Solo has no functions; its addition is the footstool, which is already included here. It can be pushed in front of the corner or used as a separate seat. Besides the corner sofa, straight Solo sofas are also known. At B&B Italia, a store or authorised dealer can look into reupholstery and spare parts; the model name and article number are needed.

Caring for the leather cover

Wipe white leather regularly with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Dab stains from the outside in so that no rings form. Once or twice a year, treat it with a care product for light-coloured leather. Freshly dyed textiles such as jeans can transfer colour, and direct sunlight can cause light-coloured leather to yellow.

Why buy a pre-owned B&B Italia Solo?

B&B Italia has been making upholstered furniture since 1966; the manufacturer introduced cold-moulded polyurethane foam to furniture making. The Solo no longer appears on the manufacturer's website today. A pre-owned piece is therefore an obvious way to own this design by Antonio Citterio. A leather corner sofa with footstool offers plenty of seating space and a cover that develops a patina over the years. This piece has been inspected in eight stations.

Frequently asked questions

What is the footstool for on the Solo corner sofa?

Pushed in front of the corner, the footstool becomes a footrest, and the corner turns into a larger surface for lying down. Placed on its own, it offers an extra seat for guests. With this piece, the footstool is already included.

What versions of the Solo were there?

Known versions of the Solo include two-seaters, larger straight sofas and corner sofas made up of several elements. There was also a matching footstool. The Solo was upholstered in fabric or leather.

How does white leather on the Solo stay bright?

Wipe the leather regularly with a soft, slightly damp cloth. A care product for light-coloured leather, applied once or twice a year, protects the surface. Watch out for freshly dyed jeans, which can transfer colour, and for direct sunlight, which makes light-coloured leather yellow.

Is the Solo still in the B&B Italia range?

The Solo is no longer listed on the current B&B Italia website. A B&B Italia store or authorised dealer can answer questions about reupholstery and spare parts. Have the model name and, if available, the article number to hand.

Why choose a leather cover for the Solo?

Leather is hard-wearing and easy to wipe clean, which is practical for a large seating area with a footstool. Over the years, it develops its own patina. Light-coloured leather needs a little more attention when it comes to stains and sunlight.

Which company does the Solo come from?

The Solo comes from B&B Italia, founded in 1966 by Piero Ambrogio Busnelli. The manufacturer is based in Novedrate near Como and brought cold-moulded polyurethane foam to furniture making.

Can I see the sofa before buying?

Yes – the sofa is at Warehouse Hamburg. Viewing by appointment, or alternatively by video call.

B&B Italia was founded in 1966 in Novedrate near Como by Piero Ambrogio Busnelli, initially as C&B with Cesare Cassina; it has carried its current name since 1973. In 1966, Coronado by Afra and Tobia Scarpa combined an iron frame with cold-moulded polyurethane foam, which B&B Italia introduced to the furniture industry. Well-known sofas include Charles by Antonio Citterio, Tufty-Time by Patricia Urquiola and Mario Bellini’s Camaleonda from 1970, whose modules are joined with hooks and rings.
