About the model
B&B Italia Richard – seating system in two depths
Antonio Citterio designed the Richard for B&B Italia in 2016. The seating system combines a contemporary line with echoes of classic living rooms. An aluminium profile frames the lower edge of the body, and the feet are only 3.5 cm high. The modules come in two depths: a more compact one for formal arrangements and a deeper one for relaxed ones. There are also benches, footstools and chaise longues as well as extra cushions in several sizes. Inside, the body is padded with cold-moulded polyurethane foam.
Richard corner sofa in grey fabric – floor model
This Richard is a corner sofa with a grey fabric cover; seen from the front, the corner is on the right. It was on display in a showroom and was never used in a home. With room for four people, it suits a large living room where the sofa is both a place to sit and a boundary within the room. The grey gives the metal profile on the base and the lines of the cushions a calm look.
Seating comfort and space
The seat cushions combine polyurethane of different firmnesses with viscoelastic foam and down. The viscoelastic foam adapts to your body, and the down makes the surface soft. With a seat height of 42 cm, you sit at the usual height. The corner sofa takes up around 3.7 m against the wall, and the corner extends 2.4 m into the room. Allow about 60 to 80 cm for the walkway in front of it.
Elements and additions
The Richard has no adjustable functions. It can be extended with elements from the series: sofas, central and end elements, chaise longues, benches and footstools. According to B&B Italia, extra cushions in several sizes increase comfort. The Richard is in the current range; a B&B Italia store or authorised dealer can clarify which elements fit this corner sofa.
Caring for the fabric cover
Vacuum the fabric regularly with the upholstery nozzle and blot spills immediately with kitchen roll. Treat stains from the outside in, with circular movements and without pressing. B&B Italia advises patting cushions all over to plump them up and swapping frequently used ones with those that are used less. Tighten the hook-and-loop fastenings on the cover now and then so that no creases remain.
Why a B&B Italia Richard floor model?
B&B Italia was founded in 1966 by Piero Ambrogio Busnelli and is based in Novedrate. The Richard is one of the company's more recent designs. Its cushions can be plumped up and swapped so that the seats keep an even look. As a floor model, this Richard was never used in a home. The fabric covers have tone-on-tone or contrasting piping. This piece has been inspected in eight stations.
Frequently asked questions
What do the two depths of the Richard mean?
The Richard comes in two depths. The more compact one suits formal arrangements with a more upright sitting position, the deeper one generous, relaxed compositions for leaning back.
Which elements belong to the Richard system?
Besides sofas, there are central and end elements, end elements with a footstool, chaise longues, benches and footstools. Extra cushions in several sizes complete the system and make it more formal or more casual, as you prefer.
How is the Richard upholstered?
The body is padded with cold-moulded polyurethane foam and polyester fibre. In the seat cushions, B&B Italia combines foam in several firmnesses, viscoelastic foam and down. The back cushions contain polyester fibre, foam and down.
What role does the piping on the Richard cover play?

What are the extra cushions of the Richard for?
B&B Italia offers extra cushions in several sizes for the Richard, which according to the manufacturer increase comfort. Depending on your choice, they make the sofa look more formal or more casual. A B&B Italia store or authorised dealer can clarify whether cushions can be reordered.
How do you care for the fabric cover of the Richard?
For daily care, the upholstery nozzle of your vacuum cleaner is all you need. Soak up spills immediately with kitchen roll and treat stains from the outside in. If the care instructions for the fabric are unknown, B&B Italia recommends dry cleaning.
